Missy Strong’s Session:  Getting Started with Conversational Solfege

Learn the basics of John Feierabend’s engaging, research-based method that develops notational literacy by guiding students through a process in which they hear, perform and then notate music drawn from wonderful and authentic literature.

In a career spanning 2 decades, Missy has taught general, choral, and instrumental music at the preschool, elementary, and middle school levels. In 2003, she earned her Master’s in Music Education from Rowan, and in 2012, a Doctorate in Music Ed with an emphasis in early childhood development from Rutgers. In addition to her current job teaching in the Mount Laurel, NJ school district, Missy also serves as the Music Education Consultant and Curriculum Writer for the Rafiki Foundation. Formerly, she was the Senior Research Assistant for Music Together, and was also the Director of Children’s Music Education at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia for 10 years. Missy is an Endorsed Teacher Trainer with the Feierabend Association for Music Education and was a Founding Member of the organization, for which she served 2 terms as Vice-President. A frequent clinician, Missy has recorded webinars for the National Association for Music Education and presents workshops and courses at the international, regional, state, and local levels. She has worked as an editor and is currently involved in the writing and editing of 2 music education book projects.
