Meeting Music Literacy Standards with Conversational Solfege: Rhythmic & Tonal
John Feierabend has been at the forefront of music literacy research and pedagogy for more than 40 years with nearly 80 books and media publications to date. Join Feierabend Association (FAME) endorsed teacher trainer John Crever as he unpacks the 12-step approach to music reading as proposed in Feierabend’s works Feierabend Fundamentals and Conversational Solfege (CS). Intended for both the general and performing music classrooms, 2nd-12th grade, CS sets up musical experiences for students to learn the same way they attained their first language, conversationally. This session will demonstrate using Feierabend’s Kodaly inspired, 12-step method to introduce students to music reading by an “ear-first” approach, conversationally improvising musical ideas that become original written compositions.
