Composed by Spanish composer, Francisco Tárrega, Lágrima brings the beauty of solo classical guitar to students. The movements are simple enough to be enjoyed by the very youngest First Steps in Music participants but expressive enough to be enjoyed by musicians of all ages. Translating as ’teardrop’, the movements in Lágrima reflect the sometimes complex nature of friendship for the pre-teens in our classrooms. Section A represents the dance of forming friendships and approaching people with an open heart, while Section B gives a sense of being pushed away and kept at a distance by friends who are not always kind. The final repeat of Section A is a reminder to give people a second chance and to stay open to new friendships by sending your heart out into the world, even after it has been battered and bruised.
