The Entertainer Move-It! PDFThe Entertainer, by Scott Joplin, was written in 1902 and is now one of the most famous examples of Ragtime music. Leslie Weaver chose this piece as a Move It because of its simple form and the joy it brought to her students’ faces when moving to it during the Beat Motions with Classical Music step of the First Steps in Music workout. The movements are simple, yet include small playful details, such as the bend at the waist and placing the toe in the air, to interest and challenge students of all elementary ages. Teachers should feel free to simplify the A section to a step-close for their younger students. The B section should be performed with arms extended to full length and with strength to reflect the energy present in the music.
