FAME Certification Courses
Learn more about the Feierabend philosophy and approach in depth. Become certified in one or all of the three certification courses offered by FAME. Each course is 24 hours (or more) and typically takes 1-2 weeks to complete. Upon completion, you will have a much better grasp of the “hows and whys” of the Feierabend philosophy and approach in your own classroom. Courses are led by Dr. Feierabend or one of our FAME-endorsed Teacher Trainers and are held nationally, internationally, and online. Course participants will receive an official certificate of completion from the Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME).

First Steps in Music for Preschool and Beyond provides activities for children as young as three but appropriate for any aged child that needs to further develop their tuneful, beatful, and artful abilities. Folk songs and rhymes as well as classical music are the primary source materials that are used to develop their musical minds and abilities.

Conversational Solfege™ is a pedagogical method to be used with children who have already developed their tuneful, beatful, and artful skills and are ready to develop a deeper understanding of melody and rhythm. Conversational Solfege™ develops an understanding of music through the use of rhythm syllables and solfege syllables at a conversational level, then gradually evolves into traditional notation. Through carefully sequenced activities, Conversational Solfege™ enables students to joyfully assimilate the skills and content necessary to be musically literate. Through various techniques, Conversational Solfege™ allows the acquisition of musical reading and writing, dictation, improvisation, and composition in an intuitive manner. This course is applicable to general music, choral, and instrumental teachers.

1. Choose a course
- First Steps in Music
- Conversational Solfege Levels 1 and 2
- Conversational Solfege Upper Levels
2. Provide a location for training
A music classroom would be great!
3. Ask your colleagues
Have at least 15 paying participants to attend the course, $500 per participant. FAME will facilitate the registration for your course.
4. Pick your dates
Plan for a minimum of three 8-hour days to complete the certification course to achieve the required 24 hours.

Upon successful completion of all three certification courses, you are considered fully certified in the Feierabend philosophy and approach. After three years of teaching following your last FAME certification course, you may apply to become a FAME-endorsed Teacher Trainer.
