This Move it was inspired by Spanish flamenco dancing. The movements in the A section are more sudden and have more weight than the sustained movements of the B section. If you’d like, show students a short video of flamenco dancing to get them ready for the style of dance. The hand position in this activity should be as if you are holding and playing castanets, which is also a great way to introduce a new percussion instrument to your students! The exact audio track used can be found on the “Keeping the Beat” CD from GIA Publications. This is a great Move it for older children and the music works well for a beat activity with your younger students.
