Craig B. Knapp received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNYPotsdam. He earned a Masters Degree from SUNY Stony Brook and has studied graduate work at the University of Hartford, Ithaca College, SUNY Potsdam, University of Memphis, Long Island University, Hofstra Universityand University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, studying with renown music educators including John Feierabend, JosWuytack, Janet Galván and Will Schmid.
Craig is currently in his 17th year teaching Classroom Music, Music Technology, Recorder/Orff Ensemble and Chorus, grades 3 through 5, at the Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School in the Rocky Point Public School District. He has three elementary chorus groups, a 3rd/4th Grade Beginner Chorus, a 4th/5th Grade Intermediate Chorus a 5th Grade Select Chorus, and also a 5th Grade Recorder Ensemble. Mr. Knapp’s 4th/5th grade students regularly participate in NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) festivals as soloists/duets/trios for voice and recorder, and his 4th/5th Grade Intermediate and 5th Grade Select Chorus ensembles have been performing annually at the NYSSMA Major Organization Evaluation Classroom Music workshops, NYSCAME (New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education) Professional Development workshops and various public school districts on topics including children’s choirs, elementary classroom music curriculum, and implementing music technology. He has been a clinician for theNMEA and SCMEA PEAK (Parents Educators And Kids) Festival, with lessons on Orff-Schulwerk, Kodály and World Music Drumming.
He is an active member and Past- President of SCMEA, where he currently serves on their Executive Board as SCMEA Fest Administrator. He hasalso served SCMEA as President, President-Elect, Executive Vice President for All County Festivals and East Division Assistant to the Vice President for All County Festivals. Mr. Knapp is also actively involved with ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), where he was recently the chairperson for the ACDA EasternDivision Elementary Honor Choir, is currently the Repertoire & Standards Committee Chairperson for Children’s Choirs for the New York Chapter, and recently concluded a 3-year term as NY/ACDA Children’s
Elementary Honor Choir Chairperson. Mr. Knapp is currently the Executive Program Administrator for the Orff- Schulwerk Teaching Education Certification at Hofstra University. Mr. Knapp is currently certified in Orff-Schulwerk Level I, II, III and Master Class, certified in Kodály Level I,II and III, he earned his Level I & II certification from the Doreen Rao Choral Music Experience Institute, a Level I & II certification in World Music Drumming, his Level I certification from the Technology Institute forMusic Educators (TI:ME) and NYSSMA Solo/Ensemble Brass and Voice Adjudication certification. Mr. Knapp holds all First Steps in Music Certification, Conversational Solfege Level 1 & 2 Certification and Conversational Solfege Upper Level Certification.
Mr. Knapp is currently a member of the following professional organizations: ACDA, ACME, AFT, Americans for the Arts,AMTA, AOSA (LIAOSA), ARS, ATMI, Chorus America, DSA, IFCM, ISME, Kappa Delta PI, MENC, MTNA, Music Friends, NATS, NMEA, NYSSMA, NYSUT, OAKE (KONY), SCMEA, and TI:ME.
