Pre-Conference Workshops: Thursday July 18, 2024

Thursday 7/18 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This course provides developmentally appropriate musical activities that are well suited for children under 3 years old with their caregivers. Research in musical child development supports the fact that when children experience music in their early years their ability to think tunes, feel rhythms and respond to expressiveness in music is enhanced. Participants will learn how to bridge the gap from research to practice and help prepare infants and toddlers to become tuneful, beatful and artful.
Price: $75.00
Thursday 7/18 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. This lively workshop will introduce participants to Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, its application in a music classroom, and the profound impact Music development has on developing, strengthening, and reinforcing the other intelligences. Practical applications will be shared that can then be shared with classroom colleagues.
Price: $75.00
Thursday 7/18 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Begin by learning classroom-ready activities which follow the eight part workout from First Steps in Music and integrate the Orff approach while gaining a better understanding of how to integrate these two approaches. Next, learn how to lesson plan using First Steps in Music with Orff Schulwerk and to develop your own integrated activities to use in your teaching.
Price: $75.00
Thursday 7/18 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. In this session, we will delve into the art of part-singing, focusing on creating a rewarding and effortless experience for teachers and students alike. Based on Dr. John Feierabend's First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege Curricula, we will guide you through a sequential framework using canons, partner songs, baseline melodies, and even explore the world of choral improvisation. Our goal is to help you grow a tuneful, beatful, and artful community through singing, dancing, and responding expressively to music.
Price: $75.00

Pre-Conference Workshops: Friday July 19, 2024

Friday 7/19 9:00 – 12:00 noon. An introduction and overview of the philosophy and approach behind First Steps in Music, a music and movement program for children in preschool and beyond. Based on the research of Dr. John Feierabend, this method encourages the development of tuneful, beatful and artful children using quality literature and developmentally appropriate pedagogy. Join FAME Endorsed Teacher Trainer John Crever for three hours of tips and techniques used to provide a complete musical “workout” for young children. (10 person minimum to run the course)
Price: $75.00
Friday 7/18 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Join FAME Endorsed Trainer Andy Himelick for an overview of Conversational Solfege, the 12-step music literacy approach based on the same principles used to teach language, created by Dr. John Feierabend. CS develops an understanding of music first by ear and later by sight both rhymically in 2/4 and 6/8 meters in Units 1 through 3 and tonally in Unit 4. Bring students from readiness to notation while encouraging independent musical thinking. (10 person minimum to run the course)
Price: $75.00
Friday 7/18 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. FAME welcomes the Book of Movement Exploration co-creator and Laban specialist, Jane Kahan. Participants will explore concepts inspired by the work of Rudolf von Laban, a Hungarian-born dancer who studied and analyzed the qualities of human movement. A deeper look into communicating through movement with Laban’s ten themes will also be explored.
Price: $75.00
Friday 7/18 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Join Move It co-creator Peggy Hayes as she leads participants through musically inspired choreography. Session participants will practice creating movement experiences which represent the melodic, rhythmic, and expressive elements of music.
