#FAMECon2018

It’s time for our 3rd biennial FAME Conference in Chicago! It is sure to be the most outstanding FAME conference yet! Featured headliners include Move It! co-creator and Martha Graham dancer, Peggy Lyman-Hayes, and co-creator of The Book of Movement Exploration and Laban specialist Jane Kahan, as well as other music education legends including Sister Lorna Zemke, Martha Riley, and Nick Page; a veritable powerhouse of educational talent. In addition, you will enjoy 20 sessions presented by experienced master teachers who will demonstrate applications/insights of First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege. All this is presented at the convenient Chicago Marriott Midway with free shuttle to and from Midway Airport. Join in the excitement and find thoughtful and energetic fellowship with others who share the 30-year plan for a more tuneful, beatful, and artful world.

The Conference starts out with the Strawberry Social and evening Folk dance. Join us for an evening of traditional folk dances from America and around the world. Martha Riley will be calling the dances and live music will be provided by the Hoosier Recruits.

Nick Page will give our Keynote address and will be leading our Community Sing on Saturday evening. Nick is a Boston-based song leader, also known for his creative work. In the 1980’s Nick was a conductor with the Chicago Children’s Choir and currently directs Boston’s Mystic Chorale, a group he founded in 1990.  Nick has over a hundred published choral works and is the author of three books for music educators including Sing and Shine On, his guide to multicultural song leading and Sing With Us Songbook from Hal Leonard.  He is working on a third book presenting a powerful approach to teaching creativity.  Nick has conducted at Carnegie Hall and his children’s opera, The Comic Book Opera premiered at Lincoln Center.  He travels the country leading songs, workshops, and team building activities at schools, places of worship, and businesses.

In addition to Nick Page, you will be able to learn from outstanding practitioners extremely well-versed in the Feierabend approach, appealing to newcomers, as well as to those who have used these materials for years. Enjoy over 20 sessions on a variety of topics. We will also have morning Move Its! lead by the Move It! lady herself, Peggy Lyman-Hayes on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Meet and greet colleagues and friends at a cocktail hour for all local FAME Chapters. A dinner banquet has been planned for Saturday evening followed by the Community Sing. Other highlights include a  question and answer session with Sr. Lorna Zemke and John Feierabend moderated by Dr. Missy Strong and much more!

Pre-Certification Courses
New this year is the opportunity to sign up for a full 20 hour Certification Course in either First Steps in Music (taught by Lillie Feierabend) or Conversational Solfege (taught by Craig Knapp). These courses start Wednesday morning prior to the Conference and run to Friday afternoon. Participation in these Certification Courses is eligible for 1 Graduate Credit from Vandercook College of Music.

Pre-Conference Warm-up Sessions
Can’t do the entire Certification Course but want to get into the tuneful, beatful, and artful frame of mind before being immersed into the Conference weekend? We’re having Pre-conference Warm-up sessions in both First Steps in Music (taught by Rachel Grimsby) and Conversational Solfege (taught by John Crever). Both are at an affordable rate, but must have 10 people sign up for the class in order for them to take place.

DR_John_Profile“Join us for an inspiring weekend – bringing music educators together to experience the joy and exuberance of song and dance, the opportunity to explore best practices in teaching methods, and the benefit of sharing common experiences with colleagues who share a passion for advancing musical learning for all students.”
                                  – Dr. John Feierabend

Whether you are a student just learning about the Feierabend Approach to Music Education or a seasoned educator who has used this method for years, you’ll learn something at the FAME Conference. A great weekend with like-minded people who all share the same enthusiasm.
