Chris Tranberg is in his second year as principal of Avon High School in Avon, Connecticut. Prior to working in Avon, Chris was an assistant principal at Simsbury High School, Director of Performing Arts for the Simsbury Public Schools, and taught music in public schools in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Ohio. In addition to his work as principal, Chris is an active presenter and consultant in the areas of curriculum development, measurement and evaluation, teacher collaboration, and various topics in music education. Chris is a former member of the The Orff Echo editorial board, Reverberations editorial board, and past-president of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Orff Schulwerk Association. His current professional affiliations include the National Association for Secondary School Principals, The American Evaluation Association, The American Education Research Association, The American Orff Schulwerk Association, and The Feierabend Association of Music Education (FAME).
Chris is a founding member of FAME and has served as the chair of Teacher Training since the inception of the organization. Working with John Feierabend has had a profound impact on Chris’s teaching and professional leadership. Contributing back to this organization is one way that Chris hopes to spread and support the importance of children experiencing a music education that is full of quality literature, joyful music making, and creativity. Preparing young children as tuneful, beatful, and artful citizens is a sure way to make this world a better place. Serving as President-Elect will give Chris the opportunity to balance is his knowledge of music education and school leadership in a way that will help move the organization forward.
At this time, additional projects include a collaborative project of authoring Singing, Saying, Dancing, and Playing with First Steps in Music (working title). This project aims to infuse The First Steps in Music Curriculum with Orff Schulwerk practices. In his spare time, Chris likes to travel as often as possible, eat delicious food, experience amazing theater, and laugh as often as possible.
